The US has threatened Russia with deterioration of relations due to Belarus
Relations between the United States and Russia will deteriorate in the event of “open military intervention” by Moscow in the situation in Belarus. This was stated by Deputy assistant Secretary of state for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent, reports TASS.
“If they [the Russian authorities] think that relations with us, us-Russian relations, have been difficult for the past four years, then they can become even worse,” the politician said.
According to Kent, open military intervention is the “worst-case scenario” for both Belarus and Russia.
The politician also added that the OSCE is a “natural intermediary” between the Belarusian authorities and the opposition, as the structure is suitable for solving some problems in the Republic.
Presidential elections were held in Belarus on August 9. According to the CEC, Alexander Lukashenko, who ran for a sixth term, won 80 percent of the vote. This caused mass protests that have been going on for several weeks. The first actions were severely dispersed, and journalists, including those from Russia, were detained. They told about the beatings by the security forces.
